The 4 C's

Shape poem - Week 10 Learning Challenge

When
Im capable
I show others
How to do things
when they are not sure.
When i am curious, I ask
a lot of questions when i need
help. When i am connected I use
the internet to show my learning. When
I am collaborative i work with other people,
not only my friends and then i make new friends.

Twins (limited edition)

Twins - Limited Edition

Once upon a time, March 26 2005 a little girl named Jessica was born, 8 minutes after there was another girl named Johanna. On March 26 2006 they celebrated their first birthday. Soon after in 2010 they started school. After 4 weeks of being in the reception class we got into year 1 ( WE SKIPPED A LEVEL YASSSS!!!!!). Anyways when i was a year 5 (last year) i became the deputy class councillor because me and the guy named Jordan got a tie so we had to have another election and he got one more vote than me so he was class councillor. So my sister was jealous and i kept saying she needs to listen to me cus I'm class councillor but she doesn't and she's says i should listen t her cus I'm younger, but i don't really care XD So now i have finished my blog but maybe i will do another twin limited edition next week for the last week of school.

Biomes + 7 wonders of the world

On Friday we did a google expedition with google cardboard, our expedition was the Biomes. The first Biome we went to was the tundra - tundra meant that it was a land with no trees. Next we went to the Tiger, i can't remember what we did all in order so i guess ill just put in the names of the biomes. So we went to the Dessert, Tropical Rainforest and the rainforest. We visited 5 Biomes then we had some extra time so we looked at the 7 wonders of the world. For the 7 wonders of the world we visited The Taj Mahal, the great wall of china, the great pyramid of Giza, the colosseum of rome, the Machu Picchu, Chichen Itza and Christ the Redeemer. We had so much fun. At the start we had to start in our own square but i had seemed to have moved. Something i liked about it was that it looked so real and it was like looking at it in real life. Something i didn't really like about it was that when you walk forward the expedition doesn't move so that should be added. Something i learnt was some wonders of the world and the meanings of the biomes. I had loads of fun learning and i hope that we can do this again sometimes.

I fell down the stairs!!!

On Sunday I fell down the stairs, it happened because I was holding my kumon homework, going to ask my mom to help me. Now I can't jump or run or go down the stairs, but i can walk up the stairs which is good right...? Okay so I'm finishing my blog today (which is Wednesday ) and i fell down the stairs again yesterday, why you ask, because since i already had trouble going up and down the stairs I fell again. Anyways i might be going to the doctors today to check on my leg and ya... anyway i hope you enjoyed this blog and i also hope my leg will get better. :)

Ashmira, Jessica, Johanna and Divya's Trash to Flash Learning Story

Learners: Ashmira, Jessica, Johanna & Divya
Learning Coach: T.Dillner           Date: Term 4, Week 6-10
Learning Area: iExperience - Technology
Learning Observed and Vision Principles
In the second half of Term 4, all of the OrmPS learners have been participating in Trash to Flash - turning old used items into something new and usable.
All of the LH1 learners began this journey by spending time looking on the LH1 Pinterest account. Everyone selected a category that they were the most interested in.
Ashmira, Jessica, Johanna and Divya all selected Girls Fashion. They were curious about making an infinity scarf out of old t-shirts. However, before they could make this, they had to go through a test run with the Design Thinking Process. As a group, all of the Girl’s Fashion and Pets & Animals learners made ladybug fridge magnets.
The girls then took the template we used as a larger group and the personalised it to their infinity scarf creation, demonstrating their capability with understanding the design process. Collaboratively, they shared this template and filled it in on Google Slides.

Halfway through the animation

Our Miko N Nummy animation is epnearly finished! We just need to add in the backgrounds and record the voices to finish the animation, though we need to put the animation photos from my iPad to my computer but that would be easy so we'll just do that after recording. We also need to make a sub channel and set up a day for the movie day to show our animation, maybe it could be a school wide reward. We could also make some popcorn for the event just in case people find it boring and they need something to help them get through the boringness. Anywho I hope you will go to see the animation that me Divya and Jess have been working on for so long. I hope you enjoyed my blog and I'll see you next time bu bye!

What its like to be a twin #4

What its like to be a twin #4

This is my blog post for Week 2 Term 4 and this is about reflection so on Monday i got my mac cases and on Tuesday me and my sis thought of something called 'the twin telepathy challenge' and we were supposed to think of the same thing the first word we got right and the second we didn't then my friend Divya told me a trick, I'm not gonna tell you or else you'll find out but it worked. We tried it out at the end of the day and it worked and now i know the trick thanks to Divya and thats why she's my best friend. Now today Im gonna do the trick to the rest of my friends maybe even the learning coaches! Now anyway thats the end of my blog 'What its like to be a twin #4' Next week will be the end of the 'What its like to be a twin' series so make sure to check out the last one!

What it's like to be a twin #3

What its like to be a twin #3

So this week is the first week of this term and i have already gotten over 10 mistake for who i am which means people are calling me Jessica. I don't know what to write about now so i guess ill just tell you what happened in the holidays so over the holidays i think about 20 people asked if
we were twins. It was quiet annoying because they should know, we look exactly they same, it is so obvious. Now for the interesting part so I was face timing my friend and when my sister said something my friend Divya thought it was me though that only happened two times out of the 40 times we ever face timed in the holidays but anyway she should have gotten our voices wrong. One because we sound so different, two is because she's my best friend. Thats all from what its like to be a twin #3, remember to check my blog next week for what is like to be a twin #4!

Ashmira, Divya, Jessica, Johanna, Jasonta & Aleena's Ko Te Pu Learning Story

Learners: Ashmira, Divya, Jessica, Jasonta, Johanna & Aleena
Learning Coach: T.Dillner           Date: 14.10.15
Learning Area: The Arts - Music (Preparing for OrmPS Official Opening)
Learning Observed and Vision Principles
For the Ormiston Primary School official opening the learners in LH1 had to learn a waiata with actions. To prepare for this, some of the NZSL Club members and Deaf learners spent some of their iBreaks working on the signs so they would be able to teach it.
Ashmira, Divya, Johanna, Jessica, Jasonta and Aleena all chose to lead LH1 in the song Ko Te Pu. The video below shows that they are developing their capabilities in both learning new signs, and communicating these to a wider range of people. All of these girls demonstrated curiosity regarding the fact that they chose to spend their iBreak time learning new signs and opting to have the extra time to prepare. They are also showing the at OrmPS we value the official languages of Aotearoa New Zealand, by honouring the connection to Te Reo Maori and NZSL in this song.
Evidence of learning
Next Learning Steps
  • Lead the habitat regularly in our practices.
  • Do an iExplore around other songs or poems that connect English and NZSL or Te Reo and NZSL.

Miko & Nummy iExplore Learning Story - September 2015

Learner: Divya, Jessica & Johanna                                         Learning Coach :DWilkes      Date:  Term 3-4                                                                       Learning Area: Technology
Learning Observed
Ormiston Working Icon curiosity.jpgOrmiston Working Icon collaborate.jpg
Jessica, Johanna and Divya are certainly developing their animation capabilities in their current iExplore around creating a series of animated videos ‘Miko and Nummy’.  The three girls have been working together collaboratively- making substantive decisions together, negotiating their next steps, sharing tasks, taking turns and thinking forward. They have had ample opportunity to make connections to their prior knowledge, for example, the programme is based on one they have seen before, their previous experience with animating (including what they learned at the Google Learner Summit) and how to reflect.  They have watched tutorials, tried out their predictions and played around with the various affordances of the equipment and programme, self directing their learning. This iExplore is large in scope and it is interesting to observe how the girls are designing their series and mapping out their time.  They showed their curiosity, thinking and managing self skills by looking at what others had done and making connections to what they wanted to achieve.
They have had voice over auditions, planned and pitched a club successfully to get a team together to assist them, investigated the setting up of a channel to house the completed episodes and learned new software.  They are inspirational and resilient!  This is a perfect example of what an iExplore learning adventure should be- something the girls are passionate about and invested in.  They are learning as part of their process and not for the sake of it.  Teaching and leading others in their club will help them make connections, teach others and foster curiosity in others.  I am so excited to see where this goes- well done girls!
Evidence of learning
Next Learning Steps
  • keep updating your iExplore doc- this can’t be all Jessica all of the time and ensure sufficient detail and reflection (this includes what is going well and what the challenges have been)
  • write a reflective blog post about your iExplore experience to date including your club set up and what you will do for the club
  • make an iMovie of what you are doing like a lesson, to teach other learners how to animate the way you are
  • set up a sub-channel on our LH1 Youtube account

My gafe experience

My gafe experience

On 12 August I went to Gafe - Google apps for education - and I went to some workshops. The first workshop I went to is about animation I thought it would help with my I explore but it didn't really because you could only move certain pictures though it was quiet interesting.
The second workshop I went to is well... I didn't have a workshop because it was my workshop so we talked about blogger and my buddy was ashmira the things that we did were, watch a video, write a blog about our presentation and the part everyone liked was the game and the game was about the to show dog with a blog.
The third workshop I went to was 3D printing it didn't really teach me anything and I didn't get a turn to try out the program I hope I get to next time.
The last workshop was Google card board and well.... That workshop wasn't that fair because everyone got 2 or 3 turns and I just got one but at least I got to try it out.
I hope you liked my blog post about my gafe experience.

Johanna and Divya's 3D Printing Learning Story

Learners: Divya & Johanna    Learning Coach: T.Dillner           Date: 21.9.15
Learning Area: Technology - 3D Printing
Learning Observed
Divya & Johanna chose to participate in 3D Printing during iExperience during Week 7-10 this term. We initially learnt about the Thinker’s Key called ‘BAR’. BAR stands for Bigger, Add, Replace. To practise, the learners had to pick either a pen, lunch box or tennis racquet to make a feature bigger, add to the item and replace something. The learners had as much creative license as they needed and then they reflected on how functional the item had become - could it still be used for its original purpose?
The next stage was to come up with an item that we use at school and repeat the BAR process. Divya & Johanna decided to replace the cubbies the learners keep their bags in. They designed and created a locker large enough to sit in!
Divya & Johanna had to use the website TinkerCad to design their new and improved locker. They had to use the pre-existing shapes to form their 3D model which was then printed out by our LH1 3D printer.
After analysing their printed model, the girls were able to write a description about who would use it, why they designed it and what its features were. They also spent some time reflecting on improvements and redesigning it on TinkerCad to show these changes.
Evidence of learning

IMG_0714.JPG IMG_0709.JPG
Key Competencies/Vision Principles
Divya & Johanna were collaborative during this process by sharing ideas and coming up with other ways to show creativity (Thinking, Participating & Contributing). They demonstrated curiosity by engaging with the entire technology process of designing, making, redesigning and evaluating. Divya & Johanna were connected as they were able to show their learning in three different mediums (paper, digital and printed model). The girls also showed capability at presenting their learning to other people in the 3D printing group (see photo above).
Next Learning Steps
  • Complete the second design on TinkerCad and print if time allows.
  • Use the 3D printer as a component of an iExplore.
  • Create a video/animation to teach other learners how to use TinkerCad.

What it's like to be a twin #2

Hello this is what it's like to be a twin part 2, if you are reading this then you probably have seen part one if you haven't then read that before you read this. But anyways on with the story, so today we were having a chat/meeting and Ms Wilkes mentioned my previous blog post by saying that she's sorry that she gets us wrong but she is still trying to learn the diffences one of them from me friend was that I have a squeakier voice and my sister has a more man like voice and from a birthday party that I've went to before is when you say one of our names either me or my sister will look up. I said that I spend more time with my friend Divya so if one of us are beside her then that's probrably me. But that's all from part two stay tuned for new weeks blog post which is part three, anyways thank you for reading my blog post be sure to read part three.

Why we should be allowed to play games at school

This blog post is about why we should be able to play games at school.    The first reason is because we do alot of work at school and we should at least have some fun because we are young and we have alot of work to do. We should also be able to play games at school when we have finished all our work, that would be kind because we would have no more work to do and that would mean we've got nothing to do. Last thing is because other schools get to play games so why cant we? We do more work, for example we have to finished 12 tasks a week which means more than one a day. Can the teachers at least let us play games or give less work to us. I hope our teachers do read my blog and know that we should at least play a game.

Ever after high - unfairest of them all

Ever after high - unfairest of them all

The first thing I think this story might be related to Raven Queen and Apple White because they have their faces on the cover and the title talks about Snow White ( Apple White's mother ).
I noticed that this book isn't just talking about fairy tales but the author also added a bit of humour into the book like when he/she talked about the fight of bananas in chapter 1.

The second thing I think this story might be about is Cedar trying to figure out where to sit by her friends or with the rebels because she doesn't want to be a wooden puppet so she sat in the middle

The last thing I think this story might be about is that it talks about all the characters so Apple and Raven won't be the only main characters I think everyone will be the main characters so once in a while they will change the main characters so Apple and Raven will only be co-starring in some of the chapters.

What it's like to be a twin

Do you ever wonder what it's like to be a twin? I don't, because I'm a twin. First thing I NEED to tell you is that we don't have twin telepathy it's just that we are born looking the same we are like doppelgangers but we are born with the same mother. You might also think we like the same things but we don't twins are totally different you might think we look the same but we don't. If you are friends with a twin then you might be able to tell them apart you will start thinking we look different and we know. The most fun part is that you get to trick teachers that your the other twin, but its also quiet annoying when the teachers cant tell you apart and they growl the wrong one but the teachers will ask so yea... The other thing is when people give you a present the other twin will get it but when its your friend they will normally tell you apart so not so much a possibility. I hope you liked my blog post about how to be a twin.

My favourite speech

On Monday 24 August there were speech competitions My friend Jaahnvi came first butt unfortunately she was my second favourite my favourite one was my friends speech it was about why she should be principal of Ormiston Primary. It was very persuasive I hope she would be principle for a day. My sister got into the speech finals her speech wasn't really persuasive but it was still good I'm kind of proud for her. Jaahnvi's speech was about why we should wear school uniform and why it's better than mufti, she used a lot of expression and she is new.

Johanna's Speech Learning Story - August 2015

Learner:  Johanna                                                                          Learning Coach: DWilkes
Learning Area:  Literacy                                                                              Date: Aug 2015
Learning Observed
This term all Year 5-6 learners in LH1 wrote a speech on a topic of their choosing.  Oral language is an important skill and Johanna refined her knowledge of some language features to enhance both the speaking and writing of her oral presentation.  Johanna’s speech about ‘Minions’ demonstrated a growing ability to be persuasive both through the content and delivery. Johanna learned about emotive language features such as the use of adjectives; persuasive features such as rhetorical questions, repetition, quotations, statistics, contrasts and lists of three; and varied sentence structures like statements, questions, exclamations and commands.  She learned about the structure of a speech including introductions, endings, sequencing words and how to make his point clear. She also explored how to creatively add additional details to make the argument stronger. This was based around the ‘hamburger method’ of speech writing.  It was wonderful to see Johanna do her persuasive speech on a topic that she is passionate about.
Evidence of learning
Some of the tools used to structure and develop the speech

Screen Shot 2015-07-26 at 11.19.04 pm.pngSpeech-Hamburger.png
Key Competencies/Vision Principles
Johanna cultivated the curiosity of others with her speech on the minions- she made everyone wonder about these characters!  She connected with her audience using emotive language. She collaborated with other learners while practicing her speech and responded to feedback and lead the discussion, writing and providing of feedback and feed-forward to the other learners when they did their speech or poem.  Her public speaking capability has grown as a result of this experience. She was assessed against all four of our Ormiston Primary Vision Principles.
Next Learning Steps
  • Practise in front of a mirror to work on eye contact and volume of voice.
  • Seek feedback from other learners during planning and writing stages in order to increase collaboration.
  • write a reflective blog post
  • embed the oral rubric into her learning pathway and a copy of you presenting the speech -Video yourself and watch to self-assess.
  • practice reading aloud daily
  • write what you think your next steps are in the comment section

My speech - Minionz

Minions
Today I'll be telling you why the school should let us watch the minions movie by telling you what minions are, what language they speak, why minions like serving evil, and what they want out of life and extra facts about them whilst answering the questions.
 1) What are Minions?

Minions are a species of tiny yellow henchmen; they look like unusually dressed Mike and ( i ) Ike candies. They're earnestly driven by the desire to serve an evil boss, though they often screw up because they're selfish, easily distracted, and generally inept. They vary in height, but it's safe to say they're between 2 and 3 feet tall. They communicate using a gibberish language that's understandable to them and a few people who have longstanding relationships with them. Minions in real life are tiny people who work for companies they're also known as midgets but in a kind way. Minions make fun of each other and lose focus easily they need to be yelled at to get back on track. They love fruit especially bananas and apples but... Mostly bananas, that's why they're yellow. They can still be changed that's why in despicable me 2 there were purple minions... You know the ones that have, the purple furry hair and stuff... You know what I mean. Minions also work for a jelly factory but.... They don't really work, they just taste it. You might know the minions from despicable me 1 and 2, that is when they decided to make the minions movie.
2) What language do Minions speak?
the Minions speak a kind of latin language, but more random and they call it a gibberish language and minions have a small tongue so they can't speak proper English even if they try to. Some of their language has English words but when you say the English word they will probably think you are speaking gibberish.
3) What do the minions want out of life?
The Minions become listless after too much time without a master to serve. Over time, their daily routine broke down without an outside force to control their chaos. Seeing Minions bored turns out to be just as funny as seeing them hyper it's like seeing the aftermath of a particularly long sugar rush, but when they met Gru everything changed. Minions are also very lazy they don't work they're best. Unless there's a reward to it.
4) Why do minions like serving evil?
minions like serving evil because they think it's not boring because everyone does something kind but evil people don't, minions think evil is not boring but they do have a loving heart. Minions have a mind of evil and curiosity, like blowing stuff up and messing around, working for evil is their favorite job.
now you know what minions are, what language they speak, why minions like serving evil and what they want out of life, Now I hope the learning coaches will bring us to the cinemas to watch the minions movie.
Thank you for listening my speech and i hope you enjoyed.
