Learning Observed
Johanna was in a group of learners selected to work with Ms Wilkes as their PAT Maths and IKAN scores demonstrated their high ability in maths. They have had two sessions in which they have set up Digital Math Journals where they will solve mathematical problems and explain their thinking using mathematical language. These journals will capture their learning in maths over time and become rich evidence. Johanna is a natural problem solver and is often the first learner to discover a ‘new’ way and she is quick to assist others. We witnessed this first hand when Johanna discovered a new and improved way to access our Learning Pathway on a tablet. Johanna noticed that the other two learners had different maths problems to solve and queried why theirs were ‘harder’ than hers. I am looking forward to working with Johanna so she can explore her key mathematical understandings, developing confidence in her ability to discuss how she solves problems.

Evidence of learning
Assessment Results: Stanine 8 for Year 6 (34/41 on PAT Maths), Working within Stage 7 (IKAN)
Key Competencies/Vision Principles
Johanna has managed herself very responsibly, she relates well with others and participates and contributes enthusiastically. Her technical capability has grown significantly since the beginning of the year (eg. she can embed media into her google site and hyperlink) and other learners often ask her for assistance. Her capability in maths is clear from the assessment results and her innate curiosity enables her to confidently ask questions. I wonder if Johanna practices maths at home?
